Final Fantasy XIII, Fang/Vanille, one of them falling in love with the other during their first focus, but afraid of expressing or admitting it until their focus is complete.

FF12: Penelo+Basch or Penelo/Basch, late in the game when they are getting pretty pally and the magnitude of what they are up against (the crazy Occuria, a potential Rozarrian-Archadian war) is getting Very Very Serious and ... Penelo decides to talk with Basch about Reks and what it meant to see him go become a knight under Basch's command only to get stabbed and captured as a witness of Raminas's assassination.

Bonus points for filling in gaps about:
* How Reks was recruited into the Order.
* The time Vaan visited Reks in the White Room hospital scene (when Vaan brings Reks a Galbana lily and Reks is drugged out and unresponsive).
* How Penelo felt when she found out Basch was still alive. (Hero? Traitor?)

Extra happy if the story includes the darker/sadder side of love or affection or hero worship that is all wrapped up in a mix of fluff and angst. ^^

Please forgive me if this prompt is a little vague, I haven't actually finished FFXIII yet (just reached Gran Pulse!).

I think Sazh and Vanille probably have my favourite relationship of the whole cast, though, so I'm charmed to see them on your list! It would be lovely to see something introspective from one of them regarding the other, set sometime during that period where they're travelling together. Maybe something focused on themes of family/having a place to belong (and indeed, whether they have any such place any more + the whole complicated deal with Dajh).
